Faith & Trust

Let us not rebel against delay. We must not steal tomarrow out of God's hands. God is never too late. He is always right on time.

Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible, & receives from God the impossible.

We may not know what the future holds, but we know Who holds the future.

Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.

Many people believe their doubts & doubt their beliefs.

Simple faith honours God & God honours simple faith.

God moves in a mysterious way

His wonders to perform

He plants His footsteps in the sea

And rides upon the storm.

Deep in unfathomable mines

Of never-failing skill,

He treasures up His bright designs,

And works His sovereign will.

Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take

The clouds ye so much dread

Are big with mercy and shall break

In blessings on your head.

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,

But trust Him for His grace;

Behind a frowning providence

He hides a smiling face.

There is a great difference between worry & concern. Worry frets about a problem. Concern solves the problem.

Faith is needed all the way,

Faith to toil and faith to pray,

Faith to learn and faith to teach,

Faith to practise, faith to preach;

Faith to start each day anew,

Faith to do our duty, too;

Faith to help the weak along,

Faith to bear, in patience, wrong;

Faith to smile, though sad within,

Faith to conquer every sin,

Faith to ask Him for His care

While we earthly trials bear;

Faith to smother every sigh,

Faith to live and faith to die.

Courage is armor a blind man wears;

The calloused scar of outlived despairs:

Courage is Fear that has said its prayers.

Be like the bird that, pausing in her flight

Awhile on boughs too slight,

Feels them give way beneath her and yet sings,

Knowing that she hath wings

                                                       Victor Hugo

Fear knocked at the door;

      Faith opened it

                     And ~ there was

                                         no one there.

Things that never happen seem to worry us most.

O'er uncharted sea

To their hearts' desire

Do men of faith set sail,

While the beaten men

Walk with fearful hearts

Along life's beaten trail.

The men of faith will challenge

Both men & Satan's wrath,

But the beaten men will compromise

And walk the beaten path.

Beaten roads are for beaten men,

As they walk with measured tread,

With tuneless souls they move along

To dwell among the dead.

But men of faith climb unscaled walls,

And sail uncharted seas.

They dare to cross convention's bounds

To set the captives free.

                                  Thomas Wyatt

Some people pray for a bushel, but carry a cup.

Safe in the arms of Jesus,

Safe on His gentle breast,

There, by His love o'ershaded,

Sweetly my soul shall rest.

Hark! 'tis the voice of angels

Borne in a song to me,

Over the fields of glory,

Over the jasper sea.

Safe in the arms of Jesus,

Safe from corroding care,

Safe from the World's temptations,

Sin cannot harm me there.

Free from the blight of sorrow,

Free from my doubts & fears;

Only a few more trials,

Only a few more tears!

Jesus, my heart's dear refuge,

Jesus has died for me;

Firm on the Rock of Ages

Ever my trust shall be.

                                          Fanny Crosby

We are not to think that, where we see no possibilities, God sees none.

An old Scotsman operated a little rowboat for transporting passengers. One day a passenger noticed that the good old man had carved on one oar the word "faith" and on the other oar the word "works." Curiosity led him to ask the meaning of this. The old man, being a well-balanced Christian and glad of the opportunity for testimonoy, said, "I will show you."

So saying, he dropped one oar and plied the other called 'works', and they just went around in circles. Then he dropped that oar and began to ply the oar called 'faith', and the little boat just went around in circles again - this time the other way around, but still in a circle.

After this demonstration the old man picked up 'faith' & 'works', and plying both oars together, sped swiftly over the water, explaining to his inquiring passenger, "You see, that is the way it is in the Christian life. Dead works without faith are useless, and 'faith without works is dead' also, getting you nowhere. But faith and works pulling together make for safety, progress, and blessing."

A little faith will bring your soul to Heaven; a great faith will bring Heaven to your soul.

He does not lead me year by year

Nor even day by day,

But step by step my path unfolds;

My Lord directs my way.

Tomorrow's plans I do not know,

I only know this minute;

But He will say, "This is the way,

By faith now walk in it."

And I am glad that it is so,

Today's enough to bear;

And when tomorrow comes, His grace

Shall far exceed its care.

What need to worry then, or fret?

The God who gave His Son

Holds all my moments in His hand

And gives them, one by one.

                                                Barbara C. Ryberg

Two painters each painted a picture to illustrate his concept of peace. The first chose for his scene a still, lone lake among far-off mountains. The second drew on his canvas a thundering water-fall, with a fragile birch tree bending over the foam; at the fork of a branch, almost wet with the cataract's spray, a robin sat on its nest, cheerfully singing.

Peace is not real peace until it has been tested in the storm.

To walk when others are running;

To whisper when others are shouting;

To smile when others are angry;

To pause when others are hurrying;

To pray when others are doubting;

To know inner calm in spite of everything

This is serenity.

Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of God no matter what the conflict.

Peace is the smile of God reflected in the soul of the believer.

If we have not quiet in our minds, outward comfort will do no more for us than a golden slipper on a gouty foot.

                                           John Bunyan

You will never find peace & happiness until you are ready to commit yourself to something worth dying for.

                                                        Jean Paul Sartre

Peace is not made at the council tables, or by treaties, but in the hearts of men.

                                                     Herbert Hoover

The answer's coming,

Never fear,

The answer's coming,

It's almost here.

Keep on believing,

Just trust and obey,

The answer's coming,

It's on the way.

God Is Still On The Throne

How sweet the memory - as a child when disappointments came

My mother's faith and courage sweet, that put my own to shame.

For in the time of trouble deep my faith would weaken sore,

While hers just seemed to thrive on trials and only grow the more.

And then it was I'd hear her say as my doubts took to wings,

"Why, God is still upon the throne and prayer changes things."

But after years, I wandered from the  shrine at mother's knee:

For seeming wise and learned men had clearly shown to me

That such a simple, childlike faith was now quite obsolete,

Belonging just to ages past, today - for fools 'twas meet.

"All this", they said, "is only myth and from gross ingorance springs,

That God is still upon the throne, and prayer changes things."

Their way seemed well in weather fair, but Oh! when troubles came

It didn't meet the need at all - 'twas such a futile game.

"Now just hold on", the scoffer said, "there's nothing else to do."

But that was just the trouble when there was naught to hold on to.

For I had lost the simple faith that such assurance brings,

That God is still upon the throne, and prayer changes things.

So I turned back with eager heart to the old-fashioned way;

And now I know that God is real, no matter what they say,

For better proof could not be had than truly answered prayer,

And answered too in such a way as to know - God is there.

And where is greater happiness than the peace that this truth brings

That God is still upon the throne, and prayer changes things.

Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.  Romans 10:17

Without Faith it is impossible to please Him, for he that cometh to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.  Hebrews 11:6

I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Psalm 27:13

We walk by faith, not by sight.  2Corinthians 5:7
